Josephine Gillespie was born in Iloilo City in the Philippines where she grew up and studied, graduating with a BSc degree in Chemical Engineering.  She and her husband moved to Newport-on-Tay,  a small village on the North coast of Fife, by the River Tay, in Scotland in 1989. 

Josephine is a versatile artist working in a variety of media including watercolour, acrylic, pastel and mixed media.  Her favourite subjects are figures, still lifes, trees, and coastal village scenes.  She is an accomplished portrait artist who has received a number of commissions from people living throughout Fife, Tayside and further afield.  She works from her studio in Wormit where she also teaches some of her art classes. 

Josephine is a participant in the yearly North Fife Open Studios exhibition on the 1st and 2nd weekend of May and the Pittenweem Arts Festival held every 1st to 2nd weekend of August.
